The association was founded in 1888. The greatest success was the 1926 victory in the Welsh Cup against Swansea Town .
In the League of Wales , the team played from 1992/93 to six years in the top class. The best placement was third place twice. They also played in the UEFA Intertoto Cup twice, in 1997 and 1998 .
Before the 1998/99 season, the club was excluded from the game due to financial problems.
