The Eberbacher Rosenbräu was a private brewery in Eberbach . It produced from 1823 to 1981.

history

In 1823, Peter Koch received permission from the directorate of the Neckarkkreis Mannheim to sell beer and brandy for his Strausswirtschaft Rose ; he founded the rose brewery . The parent company is located on the Neuer Markt, near the Rose Tower, one of the four still preserved Eberbach city towers. But it is possible that there was a landlord at an inn "Zur Rose" before Peter Koch. Because a "Roßenwürt vorm Thor" is mentioned with Hans Georg Rothengatter as early as 1664, which could be the former inn "Zur Rose". However, the brewing rights of the restaurant "Zur Rose" are only documented at the beginning of the 19th century. Various families ran a brewery and an inn after Peter Koch. The brewery was taken over by the trained brewer Philipp Knauber in 1893 and relocated within Eberbach in 1911. No evidence of the time of the First World War has survived.

In World War II, the plant was maintained. Karl Knauber, who studied economics, has been running the business under the name Eberbacher Rosenbräu - Philipp Knauber & Sons since 1939 . From 1945 to 1981 the annual output quintupled to around 16,000 hectoliters. Malt was obtained from various Baden cities, hops came from Hallertau and Tettnang . Most of the customers were from the region, the last seven smaller delivery vehicles covered a radius of around 50 km. In 1964 a new brewhouse was built. A fully automatic filling line for up to 3500 bottles per hour was installed in 1974. The Rosenbräu was brewed in the variants Export , Pils or Bock and also many festival beers. The Heilbronn brewery Cluss took over the company in 1977, Cluss was bought by Dinkelacker in 1982 . The last beer of the Eberbacher Rosenbräu was bottled on July 14, 1981, after which the brewing operation was stopped.

The brewery buildings were demolished in 1987, the parent company Rose has been vacant since 2008 and was sold to private investors by the owner City of Eberbach.
