The distribution area of the Eberbacher Zeitung is the city itself as well as the adjacent Hohe and Kleine Odenwald . It is distributed by the Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung publishing house. The sold circulation is 1733 copies, a decrease of 51.7 percent since 1998.

history

The actual forerunner of the Eberbacher Zeitung is the Eberbacher Wochenblatt , which was first published on December 29, 1863 by the Karlsruhe-based printer Carl Wagner as a "liberal newspaper". In 1874 Joseph Wieprecht from Cochem took over the Eberbacher Wochenblatt and immediately renamed it to the Eberbacher Zeitung . Wieprecht published under this title for the first time on January 3, 1874. Wieprecht remained true to Wagner's "decidedly national-liberal direction".

On October 1, 1887, the Eberbach printer Wilhelm Krauth published the daily newspaper Stadt- und Landbote for the first time .

Until the National Socialists came to power in 1933, Eberbach had two daily newspapers: The Eberbacher Zeitung and the Stadt- und Landbote. As part of the measures against the denominational and bourgeois press, the Reich Press Chamber ordered the publisher of the Eberbacher Zeitung, Joseph Wieprecht's son Hermann Wieprecht, to merge his newspaper with the Stadt- und Landbote in 1935 in order to forestall the forced closure of his own publishing house.

On May 31, 1935, after 63 years in the hands of the Wieprecht family, the last independent edition of the Eberbacher Zeitung appeared, while the Stadt- und Landbote, the only remaining daily newspaper in Eberbach, took over the subtitle Eberbacher Zeitung.

At the end of 1943, the city and country messenger ceased its publication due to the war. It was not until July 12, 1949, that the Stadt- und Landbote, still published by Wilhelm Krauth and with the subtitle Eberbacher Zeitung, started a regular issue four days a week. The full week-long publication followed in 1954. The newspaper cover was taken over by Südwest Presse Ulm from the post-war period. Until an electronic transmission of the coat took place, maters from the Südwest Presse delivered by train from Ulm were used in the production of the newspaper. Accordingly, the press of the city and country messenger was late, which is why it was only delivered around noon. On the other hand, events could even be included in the respective edition that had only happened on the morning of the day of publication.

During an optical relaunch in 1964, the subtitle Eberbacher Zeitung moved up to the newspaper name, Stadt- und Landbote became the subtitle. Although the name Eberbacher Zeitung has existed since January 3, 1874, the Eberbacher Zeitung now appearing counts its years after the first publication date of the Stadt- und Landbote in 1887.

After bankruptcy in 2009, the Eberbacher Zeitung and its subscriber base from Verlag Wilhelm Krauth went to Neckartal Printmedien GmbH & Co. This company belongs to the publishing house of the Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung, which itself publishes a local section in Eberbach with the subtitle Eberbacher Nachrichten. The editors of the Eberbacher Zeitung and the local edition of the Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung were in an office community until the end of October 2014, designing their editions differently in terms of content and layout. Since November 2014, the local editorial offices of the Eberbacher Zeitung and the Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung - Eberbacher Nachrichten - have been merged in terms of personnel and organization. The Eberbacher local sections of both newspapers have since been almost identical in content and in the layout of the Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung, while the editorial cover of the Eberbacher Zeitung continues to correspond to that of the Südwest Presse.
