Eberhard Gabler (born December 23, 1933 in Ammendorf , Saxony-Anhalt ) is a German ornithologist , writer and painter . He was head of the Bird Protection Information Center (VIZ) in Sindelfingen .

Life

Eberhard Gabler grew up in the Spessart and was already involved in ornithology, forestry and hunting in his youth. The trained gardener in the cultivation of ornamental plants was the initiator and long-time director of the Bird Protection Information Center (VIZ) in Sindelfingen. He drew the display boards of the so-called educational trail (bird protection trail) with motifs of the local flora and fauna. He also designed the wooden panels for the hedge trail in Ostelsheim (Böblingen district), for the hunting trail in the Schönbuch nature park and for the nature trail in Kleinenztal (district of Calw), and painted and labeled them with animal and plant motifs. At the Klostersee in Sindelfingen (Böblingen district) you can see panels painted by him on the subjects of native birds and fish.

Eberhard Gabler works as a nature and hunting book author and illustrator and has written various articles in German and Austrian hunting newspapers. Between 2006 and 2008, he had various natural history and ornithological television appearances for SWR on the program “Kaffee oder Tee”. In 2014 he took over the artistic design of the forest experience center in the Sindelfingen Forestry Office and painted, among other things, the tree path boards and the board for the bird observation house. He also carved owl sculptures.

He is married and has three grown children.

Awards

Gabler received two European environmental prizes: in 1988 for nature conservation work with the establishment of the VIZ and in 1990 for the project “Protection of birds of prey without borders”.

In March 2018, Eberhard Gabler received the Badge of Honor from the State of Baden-Württemberg for many years of voluntary service.
