Eberhard Rosemberger

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eberhard Rosemberger (†  1527 in Krakow ) was a mason and architect of the Renaissance from Koblenz . At the end of the 15th century he was mainly active in Krakow.

Rosemberger often worked with Francesco Fiorentino . There is evidence of his activity in Cracow since 1493. In 1501 he and his wife Katharina moved into a house on Kraków's market square. In 1517 he received the citizenship of Krakow and in 1518 he was appointed city mason. His life is well documented due to the numerous lawsuits he led in Krakow. His opus magnus is the rebuilding of the royal castle on the Wawel in the Renaissance style after the fire of 1499, which he carried out under the direction of the Italian Francesco Fiorentino from 1501. In 1505 he also built the main nave of the Kraków Pauline Basilica .
