Eberhard von Cranach-Sichart

Eberhard von Cranach-Sichart (born September 14, 1886 in Dresden , † October 15, 1967 in Gauting ) was a German art historian , lecturer and art expert.

Life

Eberhard von Sichart was adopted by his stepmother Wanda von Cranach (* 1861) on September 11, 1916 and has had the double name ever since. It was in 1914 at the University of Munich with Heinrich Wolfflin with a dissertation on François Mansart Dr. phil. PhD . After serving in the First World War , from 1920 to 1927 he worked for a time as a self-employed art dealer and from 1927 on gave courses at the Munich Adult Education Center . In 1920 he joined the German National People's Party . Cranach-Sichart wrote magazine articles and entries for Thieme-Becker . After the transfer of power to the National Socialists , he applied for admission to the Reich Chamber of Literature , and in 1940 he became a member of the Reich Chamber of Fine Arts in accordance with his collaboration with the Munich art auction house Adolf Weinmüller . At Weinmüller he was hired as managing director in 1939. On art theft Kajetan Mühlmanns the Kunsthaus Weinmüller was involved as a major buyer of paintings and antiques, the list includes fourteen typewritten pages.

After the war he worked briefly as a publishing editor in Gauting in 1946 and then returned to Weinmüller and stayed there after 1958, when the Weinmüller company was transferred to Rudolf Neumeister. His statements as a witness in court proceedings and in restitution proceedings are so brief that only a few conclusions can be drawn about his person.

Von Cranach-Sichardt wrote short stories and short stories. Together with Joseph Müller-Blattau , he wrote an introduction to Johann Sebastian Bach's life and work. His publication of all surviving songs by Paul Gerhardt , which he published for the first time in 1949 and then in 1957 in an expanded new edition, was of lasting importance ; A 4th edition appeared in 2007.
