Benno Filser

Benno Oskar Alfred Filser (born January 31, 1887 in Neu-Ulm , † 1939 ) was a German publisher and owner of the Dr. Benno Filser Verlag .

He received his doctorate in 1914 from the University of Munich with a dissertation The Aesthetics of Nietzsche in the Birth of Tragedy . In August 1919 he founded the Dr. Benno Filser Verlag in Augsburg and mainly published books on art and cultural history, archeology, philosophy, theology and music. The publishing house had branches in Cologne and Vienna ( Austrian publishing company Dr. Benno Filser & Co. ). In 1928 he acquired the Volksvereins-Verlag , Mönchengladbach. Between 1919–1933 around 700 publishing works appeared in Augsburg. The music publishing rights were bought by Anton Böhm & Sohn in 1932 . In 1934 the publishing house in Augsburg was liquidated and in 1935 in Munich as Neuer Filser Verlag , later Filser Verlag . According to the Federal Gazette (1964, No. 186), the publisher ceased to exist in 1964, and according to the book trade address book it was not until 1983.

His sister Maria Caspar-Filser was married to Karl Caspar , a member of the New Secession .

Filser archive

The Filser archive is named after Filser and consists of approx. 22,500 photo negatives . The archive began in 1889/90 with photographs by the Munich court photographer Carl Teufel, who began with studio photos , took approx. 7000 recordings of exhibits in the Bavarian National Museum from 1890 and took approx. 6000 miniatures and initials from the manuscripts of the Bavarian State Library from 1899 . In 1911, the Teufel archive went to the Riehn & Tietze publishing house, which expanded it to include Munich views, traditional costumes, animals and landscapes. In 1920 the Riehn & Reusch publishing house took over these recordings and sold them to Filser in 1925. The archive has been in the Foto Marburg picture archive since 1935 .
