Ebony Tears was a death metal formation from Sweden .

Band history

From 1992 Johnny Wranning (vocals) and Conny Jonsson (guitar) played together in the group Memorium (from Norrtälje , not to be confused with Memorium from Horred ). Two demos were recorded in 1992 and 1993, but the group never got a record deal. Wranning then moved to Miscreant, who released a CD for Wrong Again Records in 1995 . Jonsson tried his luck as a guitarist in Los Angeles at the time .

Eventually the two met again in Stockholm in 1996 and decided to found Ebony Tears. Iman Zolgharnian started as drummer, bassist Thoms Thun. A self-titled demo was recorded with this line-up in 1996. The band signed with Black Sun Records and released their debut album Tortura insomniae in 1998 . Thomas Thun and Iman Zolgharnian got out. Wranning and Jonsson therefore took care of their Dog Faced Gods project , which, in contrast to Ebony Tears, focused on hardness and speed.

In 1999 Ebony Tears recorded the album A Handful of Nothing with Richard Evensand (drums) and Peter Kahm (bass) from Dog Faced Gods .

In 2001 the last album Evil as Hell was released . Then the group went completely into Dog Faced Gods.

style

Ebony Tears have experimented with many different styles, always keeping in mind the roots of Death Metal. The album Tortura insomniae musically approaches the New Wave of Swedish Death Metal (NWoSDM), while other albums are reminiscent of a death metal version of Iron Maiden's music . A Handful of Nothing contained more Thrash Metal elements than its predecessor and was a bit heavier. Very often there are also melodic songs that are supported by violins and not infrequently were inspired by folk metal . On the album Evil as Hell the style of the band got faster, harder and more brutal and renounced many influences of the NWoSDM.
