Echinocereus apachensis is a species of plant in the genus Echinocereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet apachensis refers to the occurrence of the species near the Apache Trail .
description
Echinocereus apachensis has many shoots and forms groups with up to 30 shoots . The green cylindrical shoots are up to 50 centimeters long and 4 to 6 centimeters in diameter. There are twelve to eighteen low ribs that are barely humped. The one to three downwardly directed, curved or twisted central spines are white to yellowish to brown. They have a length of 1.5 to 10 centimeters. The twelve to 16 whitish to yellowish radial spines are spread out or lie on the shoots. They are 0.5 to 1.5 inches long.
The funnel-shaped flowers are scarlet and have a darker throat and a darker central stripe. They appear below the shoot tips, are up to 5 centimeters long and reach a diameter of 4 to 6 centimeters. The spherical to egg-shaped orange fruits reach a length of 1 to 2.5 centimeters and the same diameter. The fruits often tear open when ripe.

Echinocereus apachensis is found in the United States in the state of Arizona .
The first description by Wolfgang Blum and Jürgen Rutow was published in 1998. Nomenclatory synonyms are Echinocereus bonkerae f. apachensis (W.Blum & Rutow) E. Lutz (2000, nom. inval. ICBN -Article 33.3) and Echinocereus bonkerae subsp. apachensis (W.Blum & Rutow) AD Zimmerman (2009).
