Echinopsis molesta is a species of the genus Echinopsis in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet molesta comes from Latin , means 'unpleasant' and refers to the thorny nature of the species.
description
Echinopsis molesta grows individually. The depressed spherical to spherical, cloudy light green shoots have a diameter of up to 20 centimeters. There are 13 distinct, sharp-edged ribs that are wavy. The areoles on them are large. The four slightly inwardly curved central spines are somewhat thickened at their base and up to 3 centimeters long. The lowest of them is the longest. The six to eight radial spines are straight and 1 to 1.5 centimeters long.
The long funnel-shaped, white flowers are fragrant. They are 22 to 24 inches long.
Distribution and systematics
Echinopsis molesta is widespread in the Argentine province of Córdoba in the lowlands.
The first description by Carlos Luis Spegazzini was published in 1905.
Roberto Kiesling treated Echinopsis molesta in 1999 as a synonym for Echinopsis leucantha .
