Echium lusitanicum is a type of plant from the genus of the adder heads ( Echium ) inthe predatory family (Boraginaceae).

description

Echium lusitanicum is a more or less softly hairy, upright or ascending, perennial plant that develops several to many short and more or less sparsely haired flower-bearing stems . The basal sheets are 250 to 450 mm long and 15 to 70 mm wide and broadly lanceolate, they are hairy with pressed, soft bristles. The stem leaves are narrowly lanceolate.

The inflorescences are spike-like . The calyx is 5 to 7 mm long. The crown is 7 to 10 mm long, very narrow, funnel-shaped and bluish-white. All stamens protrude far from the crown, the stamens are red.

Echium lusitanicum flowers from June to August.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 16.

Occurrence

Echium lusitanicum is found in central Portugal and in western and central western Spain .

Echium lusitanicum was first published in 1753 by Carl von Linné in Species Plantarum .

Echium salmanticum Lag. (Syn .: Echium lusitanicum subsp. Polycaulon (Boiss.) P. Gibbs ) no longer belongs to this species .
