Real We - How the West Lives is a web documentary by the Here and Today editorial team of WDR , unique until then , on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of North Rhine-Westphalia , from 2016.

20 people from North Rhine-Westphalia , aged 18 to 88, have filmed various areas and experiences from their lives for this documentary with their smartphones for months . This resulted in a total of 7650 video clips with a total length of 217 hours. This resulted in a television documentary entitled “Echt We - This is how the West lives” with a length of 155 minutes, a 30-minute film that only deals with the topic of love (Echt We - This is how the West loves) and 10 to 20 individual contributions were created by each protagonist, which were then freely available on the Internet.
The 155-minute main film was divided into five subject areas:
- Generation family - children, happiness and adventure
- Finally 18 - grow up and start out in the world
- Over 70 - too young to be old
- Around 30 - how do I want to live
- At 50 - start all over again
Excerpts from the main film were presented to the public on NRW Day 2016, on August 27 and 28, in Düsseldorf .

The video diaries were available on the Internet from August 22, 2016. The film "Echt Wir - The West Loves", with excerpts on the subject of love , was first broadcast on WDR television on August 22, 2016 . The main film “Echt Wir - This is how the West lives” was shown for the first time on August 26, 2016 and repeated on January 1, 2017.
