Here and today is the name of a television program and a radio program of the WDR with editorial offices in Cologne and Dortmund . Formerly started as a regional news program, then known as the report format, here and now has been a kind of umbrella brand for two different programs on radio and television since 2017 .

history

Here and today is one of the oldest programs still in existence on German television. The first edition of the program, then made under the direction of Werner Höfer , was broadcast on December 1, 1957 in the NWDR's advertising evening program.

From 1957 to the early 1990s, Hier und heute was a regional magazine with reports on general daily events. In addition, there has been a monothematic offshoot since 1979, the reportage program Here and Today on the Road (“Huhu”). In the founding years, the show enjoyed a full market share of 100 percent in what was then the only German television program. In the period that followed, the television landscape changed significantly.

Due to the increasing competition, the ARD institutions decided to standardize their evening programs. The last regional information broadcast ran under this title on May 27, 1993. From then until 1997, there were nine-minute here and today news, as well as the 30-minute report Here and Today on the Road on a regionally related topic in the country. In the opinion of WDR, it should recapture viewers "freed from the daily shortness".

From 1998: Pure reportage format

The concept was revised again in 1998. Previously known as a regional news broadcast, Hier und heute has been a broadcast in reportage and documentary format since 1998 . Short daily reports from Monday to Friday and the half-hour report on the weekend. Here and today was broadcast for the 5000th time in December 2014.

The films, web documentaries and multimedia reports are available at hierundheute.de even before they are broadcast on television. The editorial team was nominated for the Grimme Special Prize in 2015 - "for innovative preparation of regional topics and the exemplary breadth of content and form". The program was broadcast on WDR television every day from Monday to Friday at 6:05 p.m. and on Saturday at 6:20 p.m. It deals with the everyday life of people in North Rhine-Westphalia and everything that moves them - during the week in 15-minute reports, on Saturday evening in a 30-minute documentary. The topics mostly have a regional and / or current social and political reference.

Present: new start as an "umbrella brand"

On August 21, 2017, the WDR television program Daheim + on the move became the new program Hier und heute “as a reoriented regional afternoon magazine”. This will restart “one of the oldest broadcast titles still in existence on German television” as a kind of umbrella brand. WDR is currently designing two different programs, each with a different program format:

  • Afternoon magazine on television with presenters Anne Willmes , Sven Kroll and Miriam Lange . The program deals with the everyday life of the people in NRW and switches directly to reporters with reports from the region.
  • Daily radio magazine in WDR 4 with the moderators Martina Emmerich, Steffi Schmitz and Carina Vogt with the involvement of the television editors and with joint program activities.
