The True leg beetle ( Oedemera podagrariae ) is a representative of the family of oedemeridae (Oedemeridae).

features

The beetles are about 8 to 13 millimeters long. While the male's head, pronotum and shield are black, only the female's head is black. The pronotum and shield are yellow in the latter. The elytra of both sexes are yellow, the outer edge and ends are black. The legs are patterned yellow and black. The hind legs of the males are very thickened. The yellow color of the beetles tends to be ocher and light brown.

distribution

The warmth-loving beetle species occurs in large parts of Europe. It is absent in Fennoscandinavia and the British Isles . Furthermore, the range of the species extends to North Africa and Asia Minor to the Caucasus.

Way of life

The leg beetle can be found from May to August on flowers, grass and grain in warmer locations. Preferred habitats are forest edges, field borders and ruderal areas.
