Eckesachs

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eckesachs is a famous sword from the German heroic saga, forged by the dwarf Alberich and which one after the other belonged to Ruodlieb, Ecke and Dietrich von Bern .

The Sachs or Sax was a single-edged cutting sword used by the Teutons. Dietrich von Bern took possession of the sword when he had defeated the giant corner. Already Heinrich von Veldeke testifies to the wide recognition of this sword (the late 12th century Eneasroman V. 5728).

“In the end, corner is defeated. In vain does Dietrich offer restraint and cooperation if the latter gives up the sword. Corner defies and even shows the joint where his armor is to be pierced. Dietrich mourns the death of the young man, takes his armor and sword from Eckesach, which he has wielded ever since, and covers the dead man with a green leaf. "
