Eckhard Hollmann

Eckhard Hollmann (* 1945 in Altenburg ) is a German art journalist, editor and book designer.

Life

Born 1945 in Altenburg, Thuringia, he studied art education, history and art history at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig from 1962 to 1968 and, after obtaining his diploma, worked as a lecturer at Edition Leipzig - Verlag für Kunst und Wissenschaft.

Published by this publisher a. a. sophisticated artist editions (e.g. Sisyphus press, edited by Elmar Faber and Eckhard Hollmann) and art travel guides. Hollmann wrote the art travel guide German Democratic Republic together with the preservationist Gerd Baier and the publisher Elmar Faber, which was published in 1977 by the Frankfurt publishing house DuMont and is listed as one of the four most important titles of this year in the chronicle of the traditional publishing house.

In the period that followed, Hollmann concentrated on topics of classical modernism and contemporary art in the GDR. From 1985 he worked as a freelance book designer and wrote catalog texts and articles for exhibitions.

After moving with his family to the Federal Republic of Germany in February 1988, Hollmann was able to build on his editing, book art and writing work and worked as head editor at Prestel Verlag Munich until 2010. Since then he has been working freelance in Munich.
