Eckhard Schumacher

Eckhard Schumacher (* 1966 ) is a German specialist in German in the Department of Modern German Literature .

Life

Eckhard Schumacher studied German literature at Bielefeld University and Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. In 1996 he received his doctorate in Bielefeld. After working as a research assistant in Cologne and Munich, he completed his habilitation in 2007 at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . In 2009 he accepted the chair for modern German literature and literary theory at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University of Greifswald . Since then he has also headed the Wolfgang Koeppen Archive at the Institute for German Philology. In 2011, he turned down a call to the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen . From 2011 to 2013 he was Managing Director of the Institute for German Philology, which he has been again since 2016, and from April 2013 to 2015 Vice-Rector of the Ernst Moritz Arndt University of Greifswald.

Research priorities

Schumacher researches and teaches primarily on romantic literature, tourism in literature and pop culture in contemporary literature. Theoretical work concerns the questions of beginning and beginning in literature.
