The company headquarters was in Dresden A27, Bamberger Str. 4 to 8 (later expanded to Bamberger Str. 4 to 10, including Chemnitzer Str. 44). The cigarette factory was largely destroyed in 1945. The company was founded in 1865 by Abraham Meyer Eckstein and his son Nathan Eckstein in Göttingen and relocated to Dresden in 1891. In 1929 the merger with the Breslauer Halpaus Cigarettenfabrik took place to form Eckstein-Halpaus Cigarettenfabrik GmbH Dresden, which was taken over by the Reemtsma company that same year .

The addition of Factory of Turkish Cigarettes in the company logo indicates the processing of Turkish tobacco. In addition, until the takeover by Reemtsma, the company attached importance to the reference to trust-free to emphasize the independence of British American Tobacco (BAT).

The company's important cigarette brands were: Da Capo (Dresden approx. 1910 to 1914), La Famosa No. 4, Malteser, Radetzky, Siebeneichen, Tivoli, Ulmenried, Fleet Turks, Han Assat, Traviata and Thaïs. The most successful brand was Eckstein No. 5 , which was the oldest cigarette brand on the market until 2015.
