Cornerstone No. 5 was the oldest German cigarette brand that still existed at the time before it was discontinued in 2015.
history
Cigarettes of this brand have been produced by the German-Jewish tobacco manufacturer Abraham M. Eckstein in Göttingen since 1854 . His sons moved production to Dresden in 1891 . The company AM Eckstein & Sons soon merged with the Wroclaw cigarette company Halpaus to form Eckstein-Halpaus , which was taken over by the former Cologne cigarette company Haus Neuerburg in the 1920s . This in turn was taken over by Reemtsma in 1935 after a cooperation that began in 1928, and they still hold the trademark rights to this day. The brand was discontinued in August 2015.
Eckstein cigarettes were always unfiltered . The slogan printed on the back of each pack reads: “Real and right”, the manufacturer's product characteristic on the pack side: “Fine tobacco. Spicy through and through. An honest pleasure without a filter. "
In addition to other products, the Eckstein product range also included the Da Capo cigarette brand until the 1930s, for which there is a very well-known advertising poster from the time of the First World War .
