Econy was the title of a German-language business magazine that appeared between 1998 and 2001.

history

In June 1996, the journalist interviewed Gabriele Fischer for the Manager Magazin the then head of CompuNet , Jost Stoll man , on "Development of knowledge society ". According to her own statements, this was the first time she had the feeling that something was changing in the economy.

In May 1997, she met the magazine's future art director , Mike Meiré , while researching his company Aerome . Two months later, together with the then deputy editor-in-chief of Manager Magazin, Winfried Wilhelm , she developed the concept for a “magazine for a new target group: innovative, willing to take risks and fast”. In November of the same year, preparations began for the new magazine with the working title “Dynamo” on behalf of Karl Dietrich Seikel , managing director of the Spiegel publishing house .

The first issue appeared on April 23, 1998, the second in June. Before the third issue appeared, Manager-Magazin-Verlag discontinued the magazine on the grounds that it had not achieved its economic goal.

The editorial team merged under the name "Econy Verlags GmbH & Co. KG" and took over the rights to the magazine itself. The first self- published edition appeared on September 24, 1998 . Since the available capital was scarce, the editors waived a salary, only freelance authors and photographers as well as the printer were paid.

After the second edition, the Verlag für Wirtschaftsmedien (VFW) became a financial partner and took over the magazine rights. The “Econy Verlagsgesellschaft” renamed itself “brand eins Redaktionsgesellschaft” and continued to provide the editorial content. This resulted in another four issues.

Since there were different opinions about the magazine concept, the two parties separated again on July 27, 1999. The rights remained with VFW, which continued the magazine “Econy” with a new editorial team and a changed concept, but on May 15, 2001 it finally closed it.

successor

The “brand eins Redaktionsgesellschaft” created a concept for a new business magazine within just five weeks of separating from VFW, from which the brand eins magazine emerged in 1999 .
