Computacenter is a British provider of information technology based in Hatfield . In 2019, Computacenter generated sales of around 5.053 billion British pounds with 16,000 employees. In Germany, Computacenter employed around 6,700 people at 24 locations across Germany in 2019. The turnover generated in Germany in 2019 was around 2.227 billion euros. Computacenter Germany was created at the beginning of 2003 through the sale of CompuNet to the English company Computacenter PLC. Around 2010, Computacenter developed a leading role as an outsourcing provider and especially in client operations.

CompuNet history

CompuNet Computer Vertriebs-GmbH was founded in 1984 by Jost Stollmann . In 1996 the largest American electrical company General Electric bought the company; henceforth it was called GE CompuNet. At the end of 2002 it was sold to the British company Computacenter. After a short transition phase under the name CC CompuNet, the Computacenter company was also introduced in Germany.

History of Computacenter

In 1981 Philip Hulme and Peter Ogden founded Computacenter in Great Britain . Originally the company should be called Computercenter. However, this was not possible due to an existing entry in the commercial register. This is how the unusual spelling with the letter a in the middle came about.

In 1994 Computacenter was the largest IT company in the UK. In 1995 the group had a turnover of 500 million pounds with 1750 employees . After conversion into a public limited company ( public limited company ) whose shares trade on the since 1998 Exchange London Stock traded. The following year the first foreign branch opened in Belgium. In 2001, Computacenter acquired GE Capital IT Solutions UK & France (GECITS), the British and French IT services division of General Electric, and in return sold what was then Computacenter Deutschland GmbH to GE CompuNet .

In January 2003, Computacenter again took over GE CompuNet in Germany and GECITS Austria in Austria from General Electric, and in 2005 sold the latter to the Austrian company S&T , with which Computacenter works closely in Central and Eastern Europe. In 2009, Computacenter took over TDMi's German subsidiary becom in order to expand the range of services to mainframe computers . In 2010 Computacenter bought the French Top Info and integrated it into Computacenter France. In 2011, the Swiss company DAMAX and the Apple system house HSD Consult in Germany were acquired.
