Electronically controlled carburetor system (ECOTRONIC) , English Electronically controlled carburetor system is a control system for gasoline engines with carburetors . The first of these systems were developed by Bosch and Denso .

The basic carburetor in this system is limited to the throttle valve , float system, idle and transition system.

There is a throttle valve potentiometer which forwards the exact position of the throttle valve to the control unit . Overlaid on the basic functions are electronically controlled or regulated functions that are processed in the electronic control unit, for example signals from the ignition control , switching tasks, consumption display and diagnostic functions . Usually the system also has a temperature sensor .

The Ecotronic system can be found almost exclusively in the motorcycle sector; In the passenger car sector, there was an increased focus on injection systems . An application example for the Ecotronic in passenger cars is the 1.6 liter 51 kW / 70 PS engine (code letters PN and PP, with the Pierburg 2E-E carburettor) from Volkswagen , which was installed in the VW Golf II between 1986 and 1992 was installed.
