Ed Ellis

Edwin "Ed" E. Ellis Jr. (born May 25, 1954 in Paducah ) is an American railroad manager.

Life

Ed Ellis grew up in Paducah. From 1974 to 1976 he studied transportation at the University of Tennessee . At the same time he worked from May 1973 to June 1975 on the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad as Brakeman, Switchman and Engine Forman. After completing his studies, he started his professional career in management at the Chicago and North Western Railroad (CNW).

In the late 1970s, the Railroad Revitalization and Regulatory Reform Act 1976 and the Staggers Rail Act 1980 led to profound deregulations in rail transport in the United States. Ed Ellis was involved in the strategic realignment of the company and the adjustment to the new market requirements. He ended his work at CNW in March 1983. He was then involved in founding the shortline holding Chicago West Pullman Transportation . He held the position of Executive Vice President of this company until April 1992. He then moved to the holding company RailTex and was mainly active in the area of ​​fleet management.

From September 1996 to May 2001, he was Vice President for Post and Express Goods at the state-run rail company Amtrak . During that time, he increased sales in this division from $ 44 million to $ 120 million. In May 2001 he founded the Iowa Pacific Holdings rail company . This company operates several railway companies in freight, passenger and tourist traffic.

Ed Ellis was a columnist for the American railroad magazine Trains . He is married and has three children.
