Edward B. "Ed" Murray (* 2. May 1955 in Aberdeen , Washington ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party from the state of Washington . He was the 53rd Mayor of Seattle from January 1, 2014 to September 13, 2017 .

Career

Murray began his political career as an MP in the Washington House of Representatives , where he represented the 43rd District between 1995 and 2007. He then moved to the Washington Senate , where he again represented the 43rd electoral district. He gave up this position in 2014 after he was elected Mayor of Seattle with 51.55% of the vote in the runoff election. After several allegations of abuse, he resigned from office.
