history
In 1894 the association “Palatinate Children's Sanatorium” established a children's sanatorium in Bad Dürkheim . In 1952, the building was donated to the then Landesversicherungsanstalt (LVA) Rhineland-Palatinate and was opened on July 20, 1953 under the name “Palatinate Children's Health Center Bad Dürkheim”. In 1963, the planning for a new, modern building on the site of the children's sanatorium was almost complete when a busy bypass road was to be built in the immediate vicinity of the clinic. Therefore, a new children's clinic should be built in a different location. The municipality of Bruchweiler in the Hunsrück offered the state insurance company a plot of over 80,000 square meters. Construction began in March 1968, and on October 16, 1970 the clinic was opened under the name "Kurklinik am Hochwald". In 2001 the first child-mother apartment house was built. From 2002 to 2004 the clinic was completely refurbished and in 2006 was given the name "Edelsteinklinik". In 2015, the ground-breaking ceremony took place for a new child-mother apartment house with 12 child-mother apartments, which was inaugurated on June 2, 2017. It will celebrate its 50th anniversary on October 1st, 2020.
Treatment spectrum
The Edelsteinklinik is one of four nationwide rehabilitation clinics within the German Pension Insurance that specialize in the treatment of chronically ill children and adolescents. It treats the most common diseases in pediatric medicine, such as asthma , metabolic diseases , diseases of the musculoskeletal system , skin and psychosomatic diseases . The age spectrum ranges from toddlerhood to young adulthood. Accompanying caregivers are accommodated in the clinic during the child / mother / father rehabilitation.
