Edenderry
Edenderry ( Irish : Éadan Doire ) is a town in County Offaly in the east of the Republic of Ireland .
The place
Edenderry is located in the far east of Offaly, near Counties Kildare and Meath , on a branch of the Grand Canal that runs immediately south of the city. In the 16th century, Edenderry was named Coolestown , after a Cooley or Cowley family who built a castle here. The Irish name corresponds to the meaning “the hill-brow of the oak wood” in English.
Demographics and transport links
During Census 2016 (near-region incl.) Lived in Edenderry 7359 people. Edenderry is 40 miles from Dublin and connected to the capital by a regional road to the N4 (Dublin - Sligo ). Edenderry is no longer connected to the rail transport in Ireland , but Bus Éireann connects the place via Clane with the Busáras in Dublin.
