Edgar Booth (born April 13, 1888 in Hamburg , † 1945 ) was a German, naturalized Brazilian footballer.
Edgar Booth was born in Hamburg in 1888 as the son of the former English naval officer Charles Edward Booth and the German wife Adelina. In the following year his family emigrated to Porto Alegre in Brazil , where his father opened a brick kiln.
By 1914 Edgar Booth was a successful football player at Gremio Porto Alegre . Booth became a legend on July 18, 1909 when, as captain, he led his team to victory against local rivals SC Internacional , newly founded in April . In front of about 2,000 spectators, Booth scored the first goal after 10 minutes and four more goals during the game, helping Gremio to a 10-0 victory . The Gre-Nal ( Gre mio-Internacio nal ) is the most prestigious derby in Brazil. The rivalry between the two clubs wasn't there back then, but the club and the Gremistas (Gremio fans) remember this victory with pride over a hundred years after the game.
