Edgar Cupper

Edgar-Henri Cüpper (born May 16, 1949 in Eupen ) is a former Belgian show jumper.

Life

The 1.83 m tall Edgar Cüpper took part with Le Champion at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal . The Belgian team with Cüpper, François Mathy on Gai Luron , Eric Wauters on Gute Sitte and Stanny Van Paesschen on Porsche took sixth place in the qualification. The best eight teams reached the final, which was held on the final day of the Games in the Olympic Stadium before the closing ceremony. In the final, the French team won with 40 fault points ahead of the Germans with 44 points. Behind them, the Belgians won the bronze medal with 63 points, ahead of the riders from the United States with 64 points and the Canadians with 64.5 points. Wauters contributed 15 points, Mathy 20 points and Cüpper 28 points to the 63 points of the Belgians, Van Paesschen delivered the cancellation result with 36 points.

Four years later, Cüpper wanted to qualify for the Olympic Games in Moscow with Cyrano , but because of the Olympic boycott no Belgian riders took part. At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles , Cüpper was the Belgian flag bearer at the opening ceremony. Because his horse Dino sustained a foot injury on the flight to Los Angeles, Cüpper was unable to take part in the competitions. After quarrels with the Belgian association, Cüpper later started for Luxembourg.
