Edgar Freecards

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Edgar Freecards is a Germany-wide brand for free postcards . The brand is considered to be the founder of the free postcard in Germany. The name Edgar is a corruption of the English term ad card ( advertising postcard ).

history

The Edgar postcards were introduced in Hamburg in 1992 . The copywriter Nana Bromberg (* 1963) lived in Denmark for a long time and a few years earlier the free postcards appeared in Copenhagen's gastronomy. With a starting capital of 100,000 marks, she was able to set up the first 50 card stands in Hamburg's pubs. As in a newspaper, some should be advertising (advertising cards) and some editorial (art postcards, sayings). The Edgar Medien AG cards were a success and were then placed nationwide with regional partners, and there were also a number of imitators.

Since the cards are numbered, a collector's scene developed with its own collectors' associations, and a card catalog has also been published. In 2007 Edgar Medien AG merged with Boomerang Medien AG to form United Ambient Media AG . 2015 renaming to UAM Media Group GmbH and 2019 renaming to Edgar Ambient Media Group GmbH.

As of 2018, the brand can be found in 49 cities with a total of 4900 displays. More than 25,000 different cards have already appeared.
