Promotional postcards are printed postcards , mostly picture postcards , that are used for advertising purposes. In addition to their purely advertising purpose, they are also collectibles from economic and cultural history.

Often there is the same design both as a postcard and as a poster , although the poster does not always have to be the origin. So-called picture postcards are an independent type of card that are intended to advertise tourism.

As direct mail

In direct mail , the cards are sent directly to the target persons as postcard mailings . They have the advantage that they do not have to be opened by the potential customer like letters. One disadvantage is the limited advertising space.

Unsent cards

Unsent cards are intended to be taken away or given away to promote a brand, cause, or product. Today they are also available as so-called freecards , which are offered free of charge to take away in public places, often in restaurants or cinemas. Advertising cards are specifically offered together with advertising-free cards in order to attract the attention of the target group. The main target group for freecards are people between the ages of 18 and 35.

Collect

Promotional cards have been around for a long time, and there are collectors who specialize in them. The style of the cards has changed over the decades. Often only certain brands (e.g. car brands), product groups (e.g. alcoholic or biscuit advertising), topics (e.g. environmental protection) or cards created by certain artists (e.g. Ludwig Hohlwein or AM Cassandre ) originate.
