Lennon Stella
Lennon Stella (born August 13, 1999 in Oshawa ) is a Canadian singer , songwriter and actress who became known as part of the music duo Lennon & Maisy , which she forms with her sister Maisy Stella. She has been active as a solo artist since 2018 and was able to land her first solo hit with her participation in Jonas Blues and Liam Payne's song Polaroid . In 2018 she released her debut EP Love, Me . Another global success followed in 2019 together with The Chainsmokers , Illenium and the song Takeaway . As an actress, she was seen at the side of her sister in the American television series Nashville from 2012 .
childhood
Lennon was born in 1999 in Oshawa, Canada to Brad and MaryLynne Stella, who perform as a musical duo under the name The Stellas. She grew up with her parents and younger sister Maisy on a remote farm in Claremont , Ontario . Due to their musical environment, she and her sister became interested in this industry very early on. Stella got her first guitar at the age of five and was tutored by her father. Then she learned to play the piano , ukulele and drums . Although neither she nor her sister received professional vocal or instrumental training, both play numerous instruments and sing in two voices. She wrote songs with her sister at an early age and played at various shows and festivals with her parents. In 2009 the family moved from Canada to Nashville, USA .
Music career
Until 2017: Lennon & Maisy
After they were offered the opportunity to be part of the ABC drama series Nashville , they required a work visa. To get this, they started sharing cover versions of various songs on the YouTube video platform . Their breakthrough came with their cover version of the song Call Your Girlfriend by the Swedish singer Robyn , which has received 30 million views to date.
In 2014 they recorded a cover version of the promotional song I Love by the Sons of Nature for a commercial for the Swiss company Coop , which allowed them to climb to number two in the Swiss charts. At the same time, their new interpretations were also increasingly included in the Nashville soundtrack , which made them regularly hit the US country charts. Her first solo single release is a cover version of the song Happy Xmas (War Is Over) by John Lennon from 1972, which she recorded with country musician Marc Scibilia .
In 2017 she released the song Sanctuary together with Maisy and the American actor Charles Esten in the course of the fifth season of Nashville .
2018: Polaroid Love, Me
In January 2018, Stella announced that she had signed a record deal with the independent label RECORDS and a deal with Columbia Records . Her first solo single Like Everybody Else was released on August 7, 2018 and was released on Records. The single Bad followed in September 2018 .
At the same time, Lennon recorded the song Polaroid together with British producer Jonas Blue and ex- One-Direction member Liam Payne , which was released in October 2018, became her first commercial solo success and sold around half a million in the UK alone Times sold. In addition, a joint music video was shot. In the same month, Breakaway appeared as the second harbinger of their EP.
Their debut EP, entitled Love, Me , was released in November 2018. On the same day the third single was released from the EP. This was called La Di Da and became a hit on various streaming platforms. The song reached over 67 million clicks on Spotify . In the official music video, she appears together with her sister. The last single Feelings was released on December 12, 2018 .
2019: Takeaway & Tour with Anne-Marie
In March 2019 she released the song BITCH (Takes One to Know One) , which she wrote with Thomas Troelsen and the Nashville songwriter team. Erin McCarley and Rob Knox acted as producers. Stella says about the text that he should address girl power, which is also the subject of the music video, in which Maddie Ziegler can be seen, among others . On April 26, 2019, the compilation album For the Throne was released , a collection of songs that was inspired by the American fantasy series Game of Thrones . Stella contributed the song Love Can Kill .
In May 2019, Stella accompanied the British singer Anne-Marie on her Speak-Your-Mind tour. She also worked with US musicians The Chainsmokers and Illenium on the single Takeaway , which was first played at the 2019 Ultra Music Festival . The song was released in July 2019 and became Stella's first global success.
Acting career
After her mother became aware of the casting for the ABC series Nashville , which was to be filmed in her former hometown, first Maisy and later Lennon Stella took part in it. From October 2012 both were seen as protagonists in this series. In 2016 she appeared as herself in an episode of the YouTube premium series We Are Savvy .
