Edgar Geissner (born July 5, 1952 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German psychologist .

Life

After graduating from the Liebigschule Frankfurt in 1971, Edgar Geissner first studied education at the University of Frankfurt (preliminary diploma 1974). He was active in various educational fields and institutions, one of which was community service (1972/1973). In 1975 he moved to the University of Trier , where he studied psychology until 1981 and graduated with a diploma.

Since 1980 he has been involved in clinical and pedagogical-psychological research projects, then from 1982 to 1988 research assistant at the chair of clinical psychology, doctorate (Dr. rer. Nat.). From 1988 to 1991 he held a position as a psychologist in test development and advice at Beltz Test Gesellschaft Weinheim. From 1991 to 1994 he was the chief psychologist at the Roseneck Psychosomatic Clinic in Prien am Chiemsee. In 1993 he was offered a professorship in psychology at a university for social education (Münster). In 1997 he completed his habilitation in the psychology department of the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster, where he worked as a private lecturer. In 2001 he returned to the Roseneck Clinic, where he held the post of senior psychologist until 2018. Also in 2001 he completed his habilitation at the Department of Psychology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, was given the license to teach the entire field of psychology and was appointed associate professor in 2003. Edgar Geissner has been a freelance lecturer, supervisor and consultant as well as an author since 2018.

Act

Edgar Geissner is the author and editor of more than 100 specialist publications in the fields of clinical psychology, psychological diagnostics and differential psychology. He developed and published two major manual-based diagnostic procedures for chronic pain (see section “Publications”), which are national standards in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. In addition, he is co-author of a neuropsychological test for the detection of neglect, a diagnostic procedure for the treatment of anxiety, a procedure for the detection of hypochondria, two procedures in the field of obsessive-compulsive disorders, the German version of the Children of Alcoholics Screening Test-CAST, the German version of the inventory of Complicated Grief-ICG and the German version of the scale dysfunctional attitudes DAS 18 for depression. He is a licensed psychological psychotherapist registered with the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, as well as a supervisor at several training and further education institutes for psychotherapy as well as for clinics and facilities. He conducts management training as well as team / organizational consulting.

Awards / engagement

2011-2018, Edgar Geissner was included in the annual FOCUS list “Top Doctors: Germany's Renowned Doctors List” in the field of psychotherapy.

In 2016 he received (with work group) the research award of the German Society for Social Psychiatry DGSP.

He is on the scientific advisory board and reviewer for national and international journals. He works as a juror, moderator, in committee and board functions of scientific associations as well as in the evaluation committee of a Leibniz Institute and the German National Academic Foundation.

He is an examiner appointed by the state examination office for the license to practice psychological psychotherapy.
