The legend of the white horses (original title: The Legend of Longwood ) is a children's film by Lisa Mulcahy from 2014. The cinema release in Germany was on September 24, 2015.

action

Mickey has to move from lively New York to the Irish provinces with her mother and brother Danny. She is anything but enthusiastic, but her mind changes suddenly when she learns about mysterious white horses that are said to live in the surrounding forests. Together with her newly found boyfriend Sean, she does everything possible to protect the horses from the imaginary Caitlin. In addition, an old curse is said to weigh on the place: they say that the spirit of a black knight roams, and they tell of the seven souls who are trapped in white horses. The story arouses Mickey's curiosity and so she wants to find out everything worth knowing about her new hometown from Lady Thyrza. Soon she is convinced that only she can save the residents of Longwood.

criticism

The film service judges that the children's film "links the story of ghostly fathers and lost daughters in the context of the mystery genre, with the production creating a lot of tension through an eerie atmosphere". The development of the protagonists, however, threatens to be "buried under the tangle of narrative threads that do not find a coherent unity".

Awards

At the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival 2014, the film received a Just Film Award nomination for best children's film.
