Edgware Road is the name of two separate London Underground stations in the City of Westminster . Both are in the Travelcard tariff zone 1 and are around 150 meters apart; in between lies Marylebone Road, a multi-lane expressway. In 2014, both stations were used by 11.59 million passengers.

Bakerloo Line

The platforms of the Bakerloo Line are in a deep tunnel under the junction of Edgware Road and Bell Street. Designed by Leslie Green , the station opened on June 15, 1907. This was the terminus for more than six years, until December 1, 1913, when the extension to Paddington Station began operations. From June 24, 1990 to January 28, 1992, the station was closed for renovation work. In 2007, Murad Qureshi, a member of the London Assembly , called for the station to be renamed Church Street Market to remove any confusion.

Circle, District and Hammersmith & City Line

The second station, a little further south, lies in a half-open cut. This is where the Circle Line , District Line and Hammersmith & City Line trains stop . Edgware Road is the terminus of the District Line 's north-south mainline to Earl's Court and Wimbledon .

The station building is not located directly on Edgware Road, but a few meters away at the intersection of Chapel Street and Cabbell Street. It opened on January 10, 1863 as part of the Paddington - Farringdon line, the world's oldest underground line. During the terrorist attacks of July 7, 2005 , a bomb exploded on a Circle Line train that was leaving for Paddington. The suicide bomber and six other people were killed.
