Edi Hans Pawlata (born February 19, 1900 in Vienna , † December 31, 1966 in Vienna) was an Austrian pioneer of canoeing .

On July 30, 1927, Edi Hans Pawlata from Vienna was the first documented European to succeed in the Eskimo role . In 1928 he published his textbook titled Kipp, Kipp, Hurra! In the thoroughbred kayak in which he describes his technique.

As early as 1926 he developed the Aijuk boat, a folding kayak based on the West Greenland model with a length of 4.90 m and a width of 47 cm, which was produced in series by the Otto Hartel folding boat company in Graz.

In his book on the Eskimo roll, Jens Reinhold Pawlata quotes: “Contrary to the expectations of experienced paddlers, on July 30, 1927, I was the first European sportsman to get myself back up in a kayak after capsizing. This broke the spell of the centuries-old Eskimo secret and kayaking ceased to exist in name only. " (P. 3f)
