Edmund Hampden

Sir Edmund Hampden of Beckley († May 4, 1471 ) was an English knight .

Life

Sir Edmund (also Edmond) was the second son of Sir Edmund Hampden († 1419/20) and Joan, daughter of Robert Bealknap.

He was a devoted supporter of the House of Lancaster and fought in the Wars of the Roses in 1461 at the Battle of Towton . After the defeat at Towton, Sir Edmund fled with Margaret of Anjou into exile in Scotland and lost all rights in England ( Bill of Attainder ).

The following year Sir Edmund returned with Margaret of Anjou's army and besieged Carlisle Castle with Sir Robert Whittingham .

Sir Edmund was Chamberlain to Edward of Westminster , heir to the throne of the House of Lancaster.

Sir Edmund Hampden of Beckley fell on May 4, 1471 at the Battle of Tewkesbury .

Marriage and offspring

Sir Edmund was married to Anne, widow of Sir William Moleyn.
