Edmund Kolbe

Edmund Kolbe (born April 25, 1898 in Hildesheim , † August 12, 1983 in Clausthal-Zellerfeld ) was a painter and is best known for his pictures of the Harz Mountains .

Edmund Kolbe belonged during his youth of the Imperial Navy and took on the ship SMS Kaiser in World War part. He was badly damaged in the war. After the end of the war he trained as a teacher and taught at the elementary school in Clausthal until 1935 . He had to give up this job for health reasons. After retiring from active working life, he worked as a painter for more than 40 years until his death in 1983 . Many of his watercolors and oil paintings show motifs from the Harz region, such as the construction of the Okertalsperre , but Kolbe also painted scenes from Schleswig-Holstein, the Black Forest and Switzerland.

Some of his works were published in the book Der Harz - Seen by Painters by Siegfried and Ursula Gehrecke.
