from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Edoardo Sernesi (* 1947 ) is an Italian mathematician who deals with algebraic geometry .

Sernesi studied mathematics at the University of Rome with a Laureate degree in 1969 and received his doctorate in 1976 from Brandeis University under David Lieberman (Projective Methods in the Theory of Deformations of Compact Spaces and Varieties). From 1974 he was an assistant at the University of Ferrara . In 1980 he became associate professor and in 1983 full professor of geometry at the University of Rome La Sapienza. From 1992 he was a full professor of geometry at the University of Roma Tre, where he headed the mathematics faculty from 1995 to 1998.

He deals with classical algebraic geometry and especially algebraic curves and their moduli , Abelian varieties , Brill-Noether theory and deformation theory.

In 2016 he received the Tartufari Prize for Mathematics from the Accademia dei Lincei .

He is co-editor of the Rendicondi del Circolo Matematico di Palermo and from 1989 to 1997 on the editorial board of the Bolletino dell'UMI . From 1999 to 2007 he was on the scientific committee of the Istituto Nazionale di Alta Matematica Francesco Severi in Rome.

He was co-editor of the works of Giacomo Albanese , Michele De Franchis and Ruggiero Torelli and published on Beniamino Segre's contribution to the theory of the moduli of curves.
