Eduard George Wilhelm Engelhardt (born October 10, 1803 in Berlin ; † December 17, 1871 there ) was a German theater actor- director , director and artistic director .

Life

Engelhardt already showed a preference for the theater as a schoolboy and entered the stage for the first time on August 12, 1816 as "Jaromir" in the ancestral wife in Küstrin . As a young lover he was now making a name for himself on smaller and larger stages, especially in Schwerin and Sondershausen , where he achieved great success.

His actual artistic era began with his engagement at the court theater in Berlin. Here he had the opportunity to educate himself on shining examples; he endeavored to make the way they represented his own down to the smallest nuances, and even some of his admired representations were thanks to these luminaries. He only worked there for a short time, then he married, after a year left Berlin, took over the management of the Stadttheater in Altona, where he distinguished himself as director and actor, but perished in pecuniary fashion.

In 1847 he was appointed head director at the Vorstädtisches Theater in Berlin, where he celebrated his 25th anniversary as an artist in 1868 with various proofs of recognition until he finally renounced art entirely in 1870.

The 70-year-old old man then withdrew into private life and died soon afterwards.

He always knew how to dive into the depths of the characters to be represented and to ring warm and realistic characters to their best advantage. He was a thinking actor, a role model worth emulating.
