(3408) Shalamov is an asteroid of the main belt , which was discovered on August 18, 1977 by the Russian astronomer Nikolai Stepanowitsch Tschernych at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj ( IAU code 095).
The asteroid belongs to the Nysa group, a group of asteroids named after (44) Nysa, which is also known as the Hertha family (after (135) Hertha).
(3408) Shalamov was named after the Russian writer , opposition and dissident Warlam Tichonowitsch Schalamow (1907-1982).
