Eduard Montalta

Eduard Montalta (born May 8, 1907 in Zizers ; † August 26, 1982 in Lucerne ) was an internationally known Swiss curative educator . He significantly influenced curative education in German-speaking countries.

Live and act

Eduard Montalta was the first of three children. His youngest sister died shortly after giving birth in 1918. After graduating from high school, Montalta studied philosophy in Belgium. In July 1929 he received his doctorate from the experimental psychologist Baron Albert Eduard Michotte van den Berck. The subject of his dissertation was: Experimental psychological investigation into the reproduction of kinesthetically imprinted movements in the reaction area of ​​the two arms .

Two years later he studied in Zurich and. a. in addition to languages ​​and history with Heinrich Hanselmann Heilpädagogik. Years of school service followed. In 1946 he was appointed professor for general and curative education at the University of Friborg in Switzerland. At the same time he took over the management of the curative education institute in Lucerne.

In addition to his duties as a father and scientist, Montalta was a sought-after speaker and specialist author, especially on curative educational issues. He understood curative education in its innermost essence as education, as a scientific discipline, the goals of which are primarily the insight into the essence and the imparting of truth . Accordingly, the value-determined and value-fulfilled personality is ... the goal of every education . Like pedagogy, for Montalta curative education is characterized by descriptive and normative aspects:

As a descriptive curative education, it explores the being of curative educational conditions. Description, explanation and understanding of meaning with the help of induction and the phenomenological method up to the philosophical essential knowledge of the curative educational facts are their tasks. In its normative aspect, on the other hand, it has ... above all to answer the question of the why, the what for and the how of the curative educational act. This results in the closest connections with religious truths, philosophical insights and ideological convictions.

After his retirement (1979), Montalta continued to work by giving lectures and publishing scientific articles.

Montalta was with Frida Montalta, b. Bamert, married. The marriage had three children.
