Günter Siemund

Günter Siemund (born November 11, 1927 ) is a former SED functionary and journalist . He was deputy head of the Propaganda Department at the Central Committee of the SED and deputy general director of the General German Intelligence Service (ADN).

Life

Siemund spent the period from 1933 to 1945 in the English emigration . After his return he worked for the ADN news agency. Until 1951 he was head of the western editorial department and deputy head of the Germany service, and at times also secretary of the SED company party organization. From 1951 to 1953 he was head of the Berlin service. From 1953 to 1955 he worked as the head of the main editorial department for all-German issues, then he was editor-in-chief and member of the ADN editorial board. From January 1957 to June 1959 he was a member of the editorial board of the Neue Deutsche Presse , the association magazine of the Association of the German Press . In 1959/60 he was appointed to the faculty council of the Leipzig journalism course . From the end of 1959 to 1962 he was the chief ADN correspondent in Moscow . In 1963 he became a member of the agitation commission at the Politburo of the Central Committee of the SED. From 1965 to 1969 he was deputy head of the Propaganda Department at the Central Committee of the SED. Between 1970 and 1974 he acted as deputy general director of ADN and then from 1975 deputy editor-in-chief of the weekly foreign policy magazine horizont and commentator at the voice of the GDR . In 1987 he resigned from all of his functions.
