Eduard Pfrunder

Eduard Pfrunder (born October 6, 1877 in Basel ; † September 1, 1925 there ) was a Swiss architect .

Pfrunder first completed an apprenticeship with Vischer and Fueter and then founded an office together with Ulrich Hammerer. At the turn of the century, the partners separated. The main focus of the important work lies in this period, in which he often did not build individual houses but entire ensembles in Basel on behalf of project developers. Together with Hammerer, the houses on Offenburgerstrasse were built, with their exposed brick facade, mansard roof and gable, symmetrical castle architecture in a mixture of neo-renaissance and neo-baroque. Pfrunder also used Art Nouveau forms, for example in Kleinbasel on Hammersteinstrasse, "one of the most original Art Nouveau ensembles in Basel."
