Rudolf Gottlieb Eduard von Jenner (born January 27, 1830 in Bern , † November 29, 1917 there ) was a Swiss librarian and archaeologist.

Life

Eduard von Jenner grew up in difficult family circumstances, from 1838 to 1845 in the Bernese orphanage. He was a great-grandson of Johannes Jenner and Marianne Jenner geb. Jenner. In 1845 he began a three-year apprenticeship as a pastry chef in Bern. He stayed in his apprenticeship company for two more years, before going on a hike that took him via Aarau to Munich, Leipzig, Dresden, Berlin and Hamburg. After further travels, he married Nanette Emilie Braun (1839-1895) from Mett in 1856 , with whom he had three children.

Jenner went into business for a few years, after which he worked in various pastry shops and as a decorator. In 1864, through the mediation of a friend at the city library, he was given the position of caretaker and temporary worker with the loan. At the suggestion of Adolf von Morlot , an antiquarian collection was established within the city library, which later became known as the "Bird Library". Eduard von Jenner looked after the collections there, from October 1881 as a salaried curator and was entrusted with the management of excavations on Lake Biel (stilt houses), Wichtrach, Wangen and Kallnach (burial mounds). In the new museum building on Helvetiaplatz, he worked ten more years as a technical conservator. At Kirchenfeldstrasse 24, in 1893, he had the architect Lutstorf build a house he had planned.
