Eduard von Muralt , also Edouard de M. or Edward (born July 13, 1808 in Bischofszell , † January 14, 1895 in Lausanne ) was a Swiss librarian and theologian .

Life

Eduard von Muralt studied theology in Zurich . In 1834 he emigrated to Russia and from 1836 to 1850 was adjunct of the German Reformed parish of St. Petersburg . His uncle, the Pestalozzi student Johannes von Muralt , needed him for support because of his age. Eduard von Muralt published the first history of the local parish in 1842 .

From 1840 to 1864 he worked as a librarian at the Imperial Hermitage . Von Muralt was head of the theology department and one of the senior librarians. He expanded the list of Greek manuscripts by name.

Eduard von Muralt returned to Switzerland and taught from 1864 as a private lecturer at the University of Bern and from 1869 as a professor of theology in Lausanne.

In 1849 he received the honorary doctorate Dr. theol. hc from the University of Zurich .
