Eduardo Navega

Eduardo Navega is a Brazilian conductor.

Navega began his musical training in São Paulo , studied composition and conducting at the Universidade Estadual de Campinas and the University of Sheffield (Masters) and graduated from the Hartt School of Music as an orchestral conductor. His teachers included Benito Juárez , Henrique Gregori and Harold Farberman .

From 1978 to 1989 Navega led the choir of the University of São Paulo , for which he arranged numerous Brazilian folk songs. From 1987 he played the viola in the Campinas Symphony Orchestra , whose second conductor he was from 1989 to 1997. During his studies in Sheffield, he directed the university chamber orchestra from 1992–93. In 1995 he was named Up and Coming Conductor of the Year by the APCA ( Associação Paulista de Críticos de Arte ), a Brazilian critic association . Since 1999 he has been the conductor of the Vassar College Orchestra .

As a guest conductor, Navega has directed a number of Brazilian choirs and orchestras as well as the Varna Philharmonic Orchestra. He has conducted world premieres of works by contemporary composers such as Livio Tratemberg , Cirio Pereira and Antonio de Almeida Prado as well as operas in Brazil and the USA. He teaches conducting at The Conductors Institute at Bard College .
