Edward Tarleton (Mayor 1682–1683)

Edward Tarleton (* 1620 or 1628.1690 ) was an English merchant and mayor of Liverpool .

Life

Edward Tarleton came from an old family in Aigburth near Liverpool. In Liverpool he became a respected merchant, ship owner and landowner. With which he laid the foundation for the later prosperity of his family.

He was also a councilor in the city council of Liverpool and held the office of mayor of the city from 1682 to 1683.

Edward Tarleton married in 1640. This marriage resulted in two sons, John (* 1650; † 1721) and Edward Tarleton . In 1661 he married Anne Corles, the daughter of councilor and former Liverpool mayor Henry Corles . Tarleton died in 1690 and was buried in St Nicholas Cemetery in Liverpool. His son Edward also became mayor of Liverpool in 1712.

The merchant, ship owner and mayor John Tarleton is a grandson of his son John.
