history

In 1890 Egbert Günther founded a company for the production of floor wax in Meerane in Saxony . A short time later, he and his company moved to Dresden. In 1925 Eg-Gü took over a factory for metal tubes and as early as 1928 trade relations existed on all continents. The number of employees at that time was around 500, and the Eg-Gü-Werke became the market leader in Germany.

The factory was also badly hit in the heavy air raids on Dresden in February 1945. After enormous effort, a wider range of products could be offered from 1946. From 1955 Eg-Gü was able to export the first products.

In the wave of expropriation in 1972, Eg-Gü became VEB Schuhpflegemittel Dresden . In 1980 it was affiliated with the VEB Wittol Wittenberg .

After the political and economic turnaround , Eg-Gü Schuhpflegemittel GmbH was founded in 1990 . In 1995 a product range with 72 individual products could already be offered. As the first manufacturer in Germany, Eg-Gü has been using solvent-free shoe care products since 1997. In 1999 Eg-Gü launched shoe polishes with the products “Lady flowers” and “Men fresh”, which promised a more pleasant scent through added fragrances.

After the company had to file for bankruptcy in August 2005 , the Eg-Gü brand was taken over by OLI Laccos GmbH in Lichtenau (Saxony) in December 2005 . At the end of 2005 the administration moved to Lichtenau, and production was also relocated from Dresden to Lichtenau a few months later. The same amount of shoe care products was offered by the new company.

In 2011 the production facilities, trademark rights and recipes for the manufacture of shoe care products were taken over by the newly founded Eg-Gü-Werke GmbH . A gradual expansion of the product portfolio with an international focus should be implemented from mid-2011.

In the meantime, the restart was given up and the new plant closed permanently, ending a 120-year history.
