Egg in the basket
Egg in the basket ("Egg in the basket", "Ox peeps through the hole" or "Guy Kibbee Egg") is an American breakfast dish in which a toast cut in the middle is fried in a pan with butter , margarine or vegetable oil . A raw egg is then poured into the perforated toast slice and fried on both sides by turning.
Alternatively, the dish can also be prepared in a microwave oven . The egg toast is usually served with ketchup , jam or cheese , sometimes with a salad .
The dish is occasionally named Guy Kibbee Egg after the actor of the same name , which is due to the fact that he preferred this dish in a role in the film Mary Jane's Pa in 1935 .
