- Egle, one of the two protagonists in Goethe's shepherd's play Die Laune des Verliebten . Goethe borrowed the name from the ancient pastoral poetry : Aegle (Greek Αἴγλη, Aigle ) is described by Virgil as "the most beautiful of the Naiads" ( Eclogues 6: 20-21).
